Feast of St James

The people of Medjugorje today celebrated the feast of St James, patron of the parish.

The Medjugorje parish was dedicated to St James in 1892.

St James and his brother St John, were sons of Zebedee.

The statue of the apostle, who is also the patron saint of pilgrims, is processed through the village on his feast day.

“From my heart, I address a special thought to the many pilgrims traveling to Santiago de Compostela! May the Virgin Mary help us to rediscover the beauty and the profundity of Christian prayer.”
• Pope Benedict XVI in his Angelus address of today and speaking about the feast of St James.
