Royal Mail religious Christmas stamps

The UK’s Royal Mail has re-issued two religious theme stamps used for last Christmas (2007) “to provide greater choice” to its selection of Christmas stamps for 2008.

The company’s main postage theme for 2008 is “pantomime” and it has issued six different priced stamps reflecting four different pantomime characters: The “Ugly Sisters”, The Genie and the Lamp, Captain Hook, and Snow White’s Wicked Queen. It does seem odd that at this blessed time of the year with its message of peace and joy to all mankind, Royal Mail chooses to promote the less virtuous side of human nature by using ‘wicked’ pantomime characters as its Christmas theme for stamps.
