Look at the birds in the sky!

Look at the birds in the sky. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they are? Matthew 6 : 26

Pilgrims who go to Medjugorje quite often return and speak of the birdsong and activity that precedes Our Lady’s apparitions there, and how the sparrows stay silent during the apparition.

The little birds feel very much at home in Medjugorje, often feeding on the crumbs dropped by pilgrims at restaurant tables. Now our flying friends have discovered a new facility conveniently provided by the parish and the hand of God – a bird bath!

From the trees and bushes alongside the newly erected Crucifix beside St James church, the sparrows swoop down into the fountains of waters circulating beneath the cross. Cleansed and refreshed, they hop onto a ledge and ruffle their feathers to dry themselves before flying back to a nearby lofty branch or bush.

Similarly, on the opposite side of the church, pilgrims are restored and revived, their souls cleansed and absolved by the healing sacrament of reconciliation. How God works in mysterious and providential ways.

Our Lady once spoke to the visionaries about God’s providence. She suggested that they read regularly, Matthew 6 : 25-34. (Trust in Providence). The life of the sparrows at Medjugorje are a wonderful illustration of this promise.
