In the company of Jesus…

• Both of today’s Gospel Acclamations are wonderfully linked to the opening words of Luke’s Gospel reading:

Alleluia, alleluia! My soul is waiting for the Lord. I count on his word. Alleluia! or, Alleluia, alleluia! Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest, says the Lord. Alleluia!

The opening words of the Gospel for today read: The tax collectors and the sinners were all seeking the company of Jesus to hear what he had to say…

The pharisees and scribes are not happy about this and complain, This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.

There are always obstacles in life that, for whatever reason, keep us from Jesus. Quite often it can be ourselves who set the boundaries, personally and for others. But the love and mercy of Jesus has no limits. His mercy opens cell doors and sets prisoners free. His love seeks out the lost sheep. His love reveals the hidden treasure in each one of us.

In her Medjugorje messages Our Lady constantly reminds us of how close she and her Son are to each of us, especially when we pray. She explains that it is only when we place ourselves in the company of Jesus and listen to what he has to say, or speak with him in prayer that we really draw close. Unlike the pharisees and scribes, Our Lady always invites us to be seated in the company of Jesus – and then thanks us for responding to her call, the call of Jesus: Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest.

Dear children! Also today I call you to pray, pray, pray. Little children, when you pray you are close to God and He gives you the desire for eternity. This is a time when you can speak more about God and do more for God. Therefore, little children, do not resist but permit Him to lead you, to change you and to enter into your life. Do not forget that you are travellers on the way toward eternity. Therefore, little children, permit God to lead you as a shepherd leads his flock. Thank you for having responded to my call. Dear children! Today I invite you to draw still closer to God through prayer. Only that way will I be able to help you and to protect you from every attack of Satan. I am with you and I intercede for you with God, that He protect you. But I need your prayers and your – ‘Yes’. You get lost easily in material and human things, and forget that God is your greatest friend. Therefore, my dear little children, draw close to God so He may protect you and guard you from every evil. Thank you for having responded to my call! February 25, 1992
