Mons. Frane Franić, retired archbishop of Split-Makarska (Croatia) died on March 17, 2007, in Split. As a professor of dogmatic theology he was an active participant of the Council Vatican II, and a member of different official commissions of the Council.
Mons. Franić had visited Medjugorje several times. Famous is his sentence: “The Queen of Peace has done more in the six years of her apparitions than all the bishops in 40 years of pastoral work in our dioceses.”
In an interview given for Kulturni obzor in 1999, he said: “Marian shrines are numerous in all catholic countries. The most famous and the most visited today are Lourdes, Fatima and Medjugorje. After some personal experiences, it was not difficult for me to recognize the presence of Our Lady in Medjugorje, who is speaking for 18 years now through the visionaries that she has chosen, and so to recognize the authenticity of these Marian apparitions.”
